IP VPN is short for Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network. An IPVPN gives users a secure way to access corporate network resources across private IP networks using MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) or over the Internet using IPSec (IP Security), with the same policies and security enjoyed in a private network.
IP VPN is for companies who want to leverage IP networks for their internal & external communities. It is a VPN solution that increases the efficiency of doing business by enabling IP applications over a single network. Unlike the competitors' offerings and other traditional network, PLDT's IP-PVN service is the first managed corporate IP network that offers both MPLS with Quality of Service (QoS) and IPSec capabilities, to cater to businesses' domestic private communications requirements.
INFRASTRUCTURE:
At the core of PLOT IP-VPN is PLDT's BRAINS (Broad and Robust ATM/IP Networking Solutions), the first CISCO powered data network in the Philippines, utilizing CISCO'S 2650 BPX and MGX switches in a fully redundant configuration. PLDT BRAINS has the most number of network nodes at thirteen as compared with other service providers and these are strategically located to give nationwide coverage.
PLDT made another first by introducing its Next Generation Network (NGN), and this has significantly improved PLDT's capability to deliver enhanced services, including IP-VPN, through an NGN backbone that is fully IP-enabled up to the core, and with greater capacity hence capable of delivering more robust bandwidths (up to Gigabit Ethernet speed) to customers.
PLDT'S apparent edge in terms of its access network coverage still remain unmatched to this date, with its Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON), Digital Microwave Radio System (DRS), and its vast network of local exchanges. Further, with developments in wireless technology and initiatives to tap the most out of wired-wireless technology convergence with the help of sister company SMART, PLDT gains the natural advantage of reaching areas previously not possible through SMART'S more than 6,000 base stations, using technologies such as GSM, GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA.
